A HAWORTH bookshop owner is in the running for a coveted accolade.

Diane Park is a finalist in this year's Best Businesswomen Awards.

She has been shortlisted in the 'Best Business' category.

The awards programme, launched in 2015, recognises women who are making an impact on their industries.

Any woman who owns or is a partner in a business, from a sole trader to large companies, is eligible to enter.

Contenders for the 'Best Business' honour must demonstrate an outstanding trading record and good levels of customer service, and show how they've developed a sustainable business.

Winners will be announced at a gala awards night taking place at the Hilton London Syon Park Hotel in October.

Diane – who owns Wave of Nostalgia independent bookshop, in Main Street – says: "I'm delighted to be a finalist in these prestigious awards and it’s going to be very special joining so many brilliant female entrepreneurs at the ceremony.

"It has been a fantastic year so far for my business, especially with receiving the recognition as best bookshop in the north of England.

"This latest accolade really gives us a fantastic boost for the rest of the year. Fingers crossed for the finals!"

The judging panel praised the "creativity, tenacity and excellent business acumen" demonstrated by the finalists.

Multi-award-winning entrepreneur Debbie Gilbert, founder and organiser of the awards, says: "Despite tough trading conditions that businesses have faced over the past few years, these shortlisted businesswomen have powered forwards.

"Our judging panel, comprising business experts, was impressed by the quality of the entrants.

"All our finalists are incredible examples of successful female entrepreneurs.

"The business world is full of talented, tenacious and dedicated women who not only run successful businesses but, in many cases, also juggle the needs of their families.

"Our entrepreneurial business awards are designed to recognise the achievements of these women across a wide range of categories.

"Over 2,000 people have attended our award events – and more than 5,500 entered – since the first one, and the positive reputation for the scheme has grown dramatically."

In March, Wave of Nostalgia was named north of England Independent Bookshop of the Year.

More than 70 finalists were vying for regional and country accolades in the awards scheme, organised by The Bookseller.
