A number of quad bikes and motorbikes involved a dramatic incident with police on a Bradford street have been seized by officers.
One police officer was taken to hospital after being hit by a quad bike while he was in the process of deploying a spiked strip on Tong Street on Sunday.
It comes as Bradford councillor Matt Edwards has called for national legislation to deal with "reckless" anti-social quad bike and motorbike riders, which he said is a "big problem in Bradford".
Police said the incident happened after officers received multiple reports of off-road bikes being driven dangerously in the Bradford South area.
Shocking footage on social media shows a group of males on quad bikes and off-road bikes riding in the Tong Street area where the collision between the quad bike and officer, who was deploying a spiked strip, took place.
The footage shows about 15 to 20 quad bikes and motorbikes driving on a road as an officer attempted to deploy a spiked strip. A number of police vehicles and officers were in the area at the time.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Steerside Enforcement Team said: “Whilst we continue to appeal for witnesses to this, here are some of the vehicles we removed from the road during the incident that can no longer cause a nuisance to the vast majority of the community.”
In an official statement issued by West Yorkshire Police on Monday morning, a spokesperson said: "Police received multiple reports of off-road bikes being driven dangerous in the Bradford South area at the weekend.
"On Sunday, July 14, a group of males were reported to be riding quad bikes and off-road bikes in Harold Park (Low Moor) and then proceeded to ride at excessive speeds on the roads in the area.
"On Tong Street, officers deployed a spiked strip after multiple bikes failed to stop for police. One suspect then rode directly into an officer injuring him."
A 27-year-old man from Huddersfield was arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit for drugs and grievous bodily harm.
"The officer was taken to hospital for treatment on a leg injury," said a police spokesperson.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
Cllr Matt Edwards (Green, Tong) said: “Residents have been in touch with me over the weekend about this incident.
"Not only is the noise from these vehicles a nuisance, but the reckless way they were being driven on some of the city’s main roads put the public at risk. The video shows the reality of that.
“West Yorkshire Police do an excellent job trying to tackle illegal and anti-social use of quad bikes and motorbikes.
"We shouldn’t forget that the police but themselves in harm’s way to keep our community safe and I am grateful for the work they do.
“The anti-social use of quads and motorbikes is a big issue in Bradford, and it seems to be getting worse.
"We need national legislation to deal with the sale of these vehicles and more resources for the police to be able to tackle the problem."
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any video or dashcam footage to contact the police to assist with their enquiries.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the police via 101 quoting crime reference number 13240379897 or information can be given to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
