HIGHWAYS officers have raised concerns that bin wagons would not be able to fit into a planned industrial estate.

Officers said plans for seven industrial units on the former Bowling Iron Works site off Bowling Back Lane did not include enough space for larger vehicles to enter, turn, and exit.

A meeting of Bradford Council’s Area Planning Panel last week heard that the current layout of the planned development would mean vehicles would struggle to enter or leave if anything bigger than a car was parked outside one of the units.

The application, by Z Khan, had been recommended for refusal by planning officers over the highways concerns, as well as questions over the potential loss of trees and a green space on the site.

Members were told that the layout of the site had seemingly been based on small vehicles measuring around 5-7 metres long. Industrial units of this type would normally require access for 10m long vehicles.

And officers said Council bin lorries were 11.5m long – and would struggle to enter and exit the site to collect waste.

The applicants asked the panel for more time to deal with some of the issues raised by officers.

Members agreed, and deferred a decision on the application to a future meeting.
