AN 18-hour yellow weather warning for rain has been put into place across the Bradford district.

The UK's national weather service has forecast heavy rain as well as a higher risk of flooding in some areas.

The warning covers Bradford district between 3pm on Monday, July 15, and 9am on Tuesday, July 16.

In the Met Office's forecast, the weather agency warned of outbreaks of rain and a risk of thunder which will develop into Monday evening and overnight.

The Met Office said 15 to 20 mm of rain may fall in less than an hour, with a few places seeing up to 40 mm in two hours.

Other places will see heavy rainfall spread more widely within a longer period overnight.

Yellow warnings are issued when it is likely that the weather will cause some low-level impacts, including disruption to travel.

The Met Office said: "Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.

"Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.

"Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer."

There is also a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses, according to the Met Office.
