POLICE have issued a statement following a corrosive acid spillage in an Aldi car park.
Emergency services were scrambled to the supermarket car park, on Stanningley Road, Bramley, on Sunday night, where hydrochloric acid had spilled from a battery.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 6.45pm yesterday, police received a call reporting a leak of battery acid from a pallet stacker in the delivery area of Aldi, in Stanningley Road, Leeds.
"A cordon was put in place as a precaution and the fire service attended and cleared the spillage. The cordon was removed at 8.30pm."
The spokesperson said there were no injuries, but that precautionary work was carried out due to the corrosive substance.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call from police at 7.08pm.
A fire service spokesperson said: "We received a call from police to reports of a chemical spillage of hydrochloric acid from a battery in the car park of a retail outlet.
"The battery acid was diluted by crews after a cordon was placed around the spill following advice from specialist officers on scene.
"Specialist chemical monitoring equipment was also mobilised to scene.
"Police and ambulance also attended, with the clean up left in the hands of the police, the council and the responsible person for the battery."
Stanningley and Dewsbury fire stations as did a Detection Identification and Monitoring Team.
