A POLICE officer was taken to hospital after being hit by a quad bike.

Police said the incident happened after officers received multiple reports of off-road bikes being driven dangerously in the Bradford South area.

Shocking footage on social media shows a group of males on quad bikes and off-road bikes riding in the Tong Street area where the collision between the quad bike and officer, who was deploying a spiked strip, took place.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police received multiple reports of off-road bikes being driven dangerous in the Bradford South area at the weekend.

"On Sunday, July 14, a group of males were reported to be riding quad bikes and off-road bikes in Harold Park (Low Moor) and then proceeded to ride at excessive speeds on the roads in the area.

"On Tong Street, officers deployed a stinger after multiple bikes failed to stop for police. One suspect then rode directly into an officer injuring him."

A 27-year-old man from Huddersfield was arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit for drugs and grievous bodily harm.

"The officer was taken to hospital for treatment on a leg injury," said a police spokesperson. 

"Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who witnesses the incident or has any video or dashcam footage is asked to contact the police to assist with their enquiries.
