EMERGENCY services were scrambled to the scene of a hazardous materials incident after hydrochloric acid spilled out from a battery in retail outlet car park.
The chemical spillage incident in a retail car park on Stanningley Road, Leeds, happened at around 7pm last night (Sunday).
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call from police at 7.08pm.
A fire service spokesperson said: "We received a call from police to reports of a chemical spillage of hydrochloric acid from a battery in the car park of a retail outlet.
"The battery acid was diluted by crews after a cordon was placed around the spill following advice from specialist officers on scene.
"Specialist chemical monitoring equipment was also mobilised to scene.
Police and ambulance also attended, with the clean up left in the hands of the police, the council and the responsible person for the battery."
Stanningley and Dewsbury fire stations as did a Detection Identification and Monitoring (DIM) Team.
