WORK has been taking place on the A59 at Broughton, near Skipton, on the creation of a new bus stop and to improve safety for residents.

Barrie Mason, North Yorkshire Council’s assistant director for highways, said: “We have been working with the applicant, Broughton Custodian, to increase access to public transport and improve safety on the A59 for residents of Broughton and the surrounding area.

“This is part of a Section 278 agreement, where a developer enters into agreement with the local authority to make highway improvements as part of the planning approval process.

“A new bus stop is being located near the entrance of the estate which will ensure residents and those who work there are able to travel to and from neighbouring towns and villages sustainably.

“Additionally, a right turn is being created into the estate to enable people entering and exiting a nearby business, JBA Consulting, more safely.”
