TURNING a basement bin storage area into a one bed flat would be “of great benefit” to the city centre, according to a developer.

8 Duke Street, at the junction with Piccadilly in Bradford city centre, is a Grade II listed former solicitors’ office.

Much of the building has recently been converted into apartments.

Now a planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council by a Mr Choudry to turn a bin storage area in the basement into a new one bed flat.

The application says the space is unused, as a courtyard area in the building is now used to store bins instead, as “residents find this easier to use.”

Although at basement level, the space does have windows.

The application says: “We feel the development has been well considered and that it would be of great benefit to the Bradford City Centre Conservation Area.

“The building will provide a building which compliments the regeneration of the Bradford Town Centre Conservation Area.

“We would hope the proposal will stimulate economic activity through the creation of equality environment.”

A decision on the application is expected in September.
