A volunteer has shared his experience of working with a national healthcare and bereavement charity, as it seeks extra volunteers to establish a new support space.
Phil Bruce, 47, from Bradford, is lead volunteer for Sue Ryder's Grief Kind Space at Leeds Rhinos and will be the lead volunteer at the new space at Teamsport Bradford, in Beckside Business Park, when it opens later this year.
Grief Kind Spaces are free weekly drop-in sessions, run by trained volunteers, where the aim is to counteract the isolation and loneliness often felt by individuals following a significant loss.
Mr Bruce said: "Grief Kind Spaces are a great place to come and have a friendly chat and share experiences of grief without feeling like you are being counselled.
"It is really rewarding as a volunteer when you can see the difference it has made for someone by the end of the session when they might have started out a bit nervous or unsure."
The Grief Kind Space at TeamSport Bradford, in Units 1 and 2 of Beckside Business Park, will operate every Tuesday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Volunteers can register at griefkindspaces@sueryder.org or visit sueryder.org/GKVolunteer.
For anyone who is grieving, Sue Ryder offers free online support at sueryder.org/grief.
