PUPILS had a special opportunity to see the Premier League trophy up close at their Bradford primary school.

Children from different year groups at Peel Park Primary School, on Peel Park Drive, were invited to take pictures with the priceless silverware and were able to ask questions about it to its accompanying Premier League staff on Monday.

The school was given the opportunity as it's a partner of the Bradford City FC Community Foundation through its Premier League Primary Stars programme.

Ben Cunliffe, Year 3 teacher and PE lead at the school, said: “It’s a pretty special day having the Premier League trophy here at school.

"Our children love playing football in the playground and pretending to be their favourite players. Seeing the pupils’ reactions as they came into the room and saw the trophy was a fantastic moment.

"As a school we’re very proud of our sporting output, and we would love to get the Women’s Super League trophy to visit the school too - we have a lot of girls who are keen footballers, and I know it would mean a lot to them.”

The trophy, which is currently held by Premier League champions Manchester City, then travelled to BEAP Community Partnership, where it was displayed as part of a football tournament run by the centre and Bradford City FC Community Foundation’s Premier League Kicks programme.

All participants, who enjoy free football sessions across Bradford, were invited to take pictures with the trophy.

The BEAP centre sits in the shadow of Valley Parade in the Manningham ward, which ranks among the most deprived wards in the city, and in the top 10 per cent most deprived wards nationally.

The Premier League Kicks sessions at the venue provide free, diversionary sporting activity for young people in the area.

Oliver Read, the foundation’s head of Premier League and business development, said: “This was an extremely exciting and enjoyable opportunity to provide such a wonderful experience to the young people of Bradford.

"Our work with the Premier League allows us to reignite aspirations among young people, whether it's to be a footballer or to create a new passion for them to want to exceed in life.

"The Premier League trophy both facilitates and embodies the work the foundation does in using the power of sport and social responsibility to connect with, and support, young people in the city.”

The foundation will continue to work with the Premier League to expand its Premier League Primary Stars and Kicks programmes.
