A SALON that has bounced back from a flood which caused it to shut for four months is vying to be named best in Bradford.
Family-run Luxe Lounge, on Huddersfield Road in Low Moor, is one of the businesses up for the T&A’s ‘Best Hairdresser or Barber 2024' competition.
After receiving an amazing 22,444 nominations, the names were whittled down to 10, which we have been profiling daily.
Owner Ailsa Jagger is delighted her salon made the shortlist after coming through a stressful past 12 months.
"I did not think we would be nominated. It was a bit of a shock.
"We have had a bit of a bad year with the flood so it was just about getting back on our feet.
"To then get nominated, we could not believe it."
The salon was shut from August until Christmas last year as it had to undergo a refurbishment following the damage caused.
"We were closed for a good four months," Ailsa added.
"January is usually a quiet period anyway so it took a bit to get back up and running.
"We are back up and running now but the whole salon had to be refurbished.
"The majority of our customers came back. We are quite lucky that they did not go elsewhere.
"Four months is a long time to be closed especially when customers get regular treatment so we have to thank them for sticking with us."
Luxe Lounge offers a wide range of services including hair, beauty, lashes, tanning, and nails.
"It is one of those where it is one-stop shop," Ailsa said.
"We have been open seven years, all our customers are our friends.
"We have built quite a good relationship with them and they know they can get anything and everything done here.
"I also really value the staff that work here. There is 10 of us. It is a good team. The atmosphere is really welcoming."
And on their chances of winning, "I hope we can do it. We have got a good customer base so fingers crossed."
Don't miss out on your chance to shout up for your favourite hairdresser or barber - it couldn't be simpler to do.
All you need to do is fill out the voting form, which can be found in the T&A newspaper until July 6.
The overall winner will be announced on July 15.
