A nursing home in the Bradford district is celebrating 20 years under the leadership of two dedicated owners.

Sally Gill and Jane Pitts, owners and directors, have run Wellington House Nursing Home, on Kirkgate, Shipley, for the last 20 years.

To celebrate the occasion, staff, former staff members, residents and their families all gathered for a special party at the care home on Monday.

Helen Hacking, recreation coordinator at Wellington House, said: “They’ve been owners now for 20 years, so we thought they deserved recognition.

“It’s quite an achievement for them,” said Helen. “We have quite a lovely home here. There are lots of recreational activities for our residents.”

She also said so many of the staff have worked at the home under their leadership for a long time.

“We’re really lucky with the staff we have here,” said Helen. “They’re all hardworking and Sally and Jane are at the head of it all.

“I’ve always enjoyed working here because it’s lovely.

“Sally and Jane are also nurses who have worked here. They’ve always been colleagues to us.”

In a statement prepared by Helen Hacking on behalf of Sally Gill and Jane Pitts, she said: “As owners of Wellington House Nursing Home, we have had some really great times over the years and one thing we can say is how the team at Wellington House has evolved so brilliantly and the lovely camaraderie and the many laughs we have had.

“We have kept the good solid group we inherited back in 2004, some moving on to become nurses, paramedics and even doctors.

“We have, throughout the 20 years cared for over 400 residents whose families became friends and some still call in and support our charity fundraising.

“We are very proud of our current team some of whom have worked with us for between five and 20 years, who work hard for both the residents and ourselves.

“We have had some fun and games, especially through the hard times of Covid, but we feel we have, with the help of our team of dedicated staff, survived everything that was thrown at us.

“We have been supported at the celebration by many old but familiar faces, who we appreciate their kind words of support.

“We have had a number of personal issues, ill health and tragedies too over the years, but we are still here, somehow, we made it.

“Thanks again to the Wellington House team (old and new) for all the support throughout the years.”
