A BRADFORD woman has told of her distress after a burglar stole her entire jewellery collection - which was worth several thousands of pounds and of great sentimental value to her.
Police are investigating the crime, which happened in the Allerton Upper Green area of the city on Friday.
Officers said a suspect broke into the woman's house and searched the property before making off with number of items of jewellery thought to be worth in the region of around £13,000 from a bedroom as well as around 400 Euros from a bag.
Police have released images of some of the jewellery which was stolen in the hope that people might recognise them if they have been traded in at pawnbrokers or online marketplaces.
The victim, who did not want to be identified, told the Telegraph & Argus: "The burglary has left me really shaken.
"I keep waking up feeling sick and anxious each day and can't seem to get the event out of my head.
"When they entered, they trashed the place, removing drawers out of cupboards and leaving everything strewn about.
"I've still not felt able to fully tidy the mess up as I can't quite process what’s been taken.
"They took my whole jewellery collection.
"Nearly all of the items held great sentimental value to me.
"I lost both my parents at a young age - and items that I had inherited or been gifted by them have been taken.
"I've also worked as a carer for several terminally-ill patients who went on to become close friends.
"Items they had left me have also been taken.
"I just hope by some miracle that some items may resurface somehow.
"In the meantime I've been trying to tidy my home and secure it so I feel safer and would encourage others to do the same."
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers are investigating a burglary at the house sometime between 2.30pm and 7.30pm on June 28 when a suspect has broken into the property via the rear door.
"The suspect has then made a search of the house before making off with a number of items of jewellery thought to be worth in the region of around £13,000 from a bedroom and around 400 Euros from a bag.
"The suspect then left the house on foot.
"Officers have released images of the jewellery in the hope that people might recognise them if they’ve been traded in at pawnbrokers or online marketplaces."
