THE licensee of a historic Bradford city centre pub has been left angered following an early-hours burglary.

The Shoulder of Mutton, on Kirkgate, was targeted by an intruder this past Monday.

Glasses were smashed as a man is said to have fumbled around seeking cash.

This is according to John Taylor, who has run the Samuel Smith pub since February, and lives above the establishment with his wife and three children.

West Yorkshire Police says enquiries into the burglary are continuing and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

He then finds a jar which contains £21 earned from a bonus ball game the pub hosts on a weekly basis.

Mr Taylor added: "He took three bottles of red wine.

"He tried to rag the heavy till off where it was. As he has done that, he has knocked glasses off the bar.

"He also tripped over the wires, dropping two bottles of wine.

"He then escaped through the window and vanished into the night."

Upon discovering what happened, Mr Taylor said: "My wife woke me up.

"I came down to look on the CCTV and it had still not registered. I saw images of all the smashed glass behind the bar.

"A minute later, I shouted my wife down and said we have been burgled and rung 999."
