A NEW website has been launched to attract more tourists to a town in the Bradford district.
Baildon Town Council launched a new website to promote Baildon as a tourist destination at an event for local businesses in the town.
Local hospitality firms and those who run visitor attractions in the area were invited to the event, organised by Baildon Town Council and web company Assembly Marketing and held at the newly-opened Garden Bar in the centre of the town.
As well as the website launch, attendees were asked to complete a survey giving their views on tourism and things to do in Baildon.
A Baildon Town Council spokesperson said: “Baildon has long been considered a hidden gem by those in the know, but it is sometimes side-lined by better-promoted destinations like Saltaire and Ilkley.
“The new website – visitbaildon.co.uk – aims to change this, with listings for places to eat, drink and stay, attractions to visit, a calendar of events and a blog.
“Sitting on the edge of moorland and well-placed for rail or car travel to Bradford, Leeds, Haworth, Skipton and the Dales, Baildon has a bustling village centre and plenty of history.
“It’s the ideal spot for a staycation with beautiful countryside, varied walks and events like the famous Harley Rally and highly-regarded farmers’ market.
John Turner, chair of Baildon Town Council said: “The new website is gaining momentum and the Town Council is supportive of projects which bring economic activity and success to Baildon.”
The new website will support tourism in the area and has already seen an encouraging amount of traffic, with over 700 visitors in the last month from places as far afield as Germany and the Netherlands, as well as cities up and down the UK.
Sara Mogford, owner of Assembly Marketing, said: “It’s exciting to see how much interest the website is gaining from places quite far afield.
“We’re delighted with the project so far and have lots of ideas to further promote and support our local tourism businesses.”
She also spoke about Baildon’s close border with Shipley and Saltaire, and talked about how some people think of Roberts Park as being in Saltaire as it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
In addition to Robert Park, Shipley Tramway and the Bracken Hall Countryside Centre near Shipley Glen are also mentioned as tourist attractions in Baildon.
