TWO Bradford boys have enjoyed success in a major chess contest.
The European School Chess Championship 2024 was held in Limerick between May 30 and June 8, with nearly 200 players making the journey to Ireland to do battle.
Among the players were Bradford's Adamjeet and Amandeep Singh, who made their international debut representing England in the competition.
Adamjeet ended in sixth place in the under-9s category, while Amandeep earned the bronze medal in the under-7s category.
Amandeep said: "I feel happy because I won bronze and it was my first time playing chess at such a big competition.
"I also made lots of new friends from different countries who also like chess."
The boys' mum Sarah Kaur said: "I am very proud of what Amandeep and Adamjeet achieved.
"This has been their first international tournament so to end on third and sixth place is incredible when you consider some of the best young players in Europe were in attendance."
She thanked everyone involved in supporting her sons and their development.
Both Adamjeet and Amandeep, who attend Stocks Lane Primary School, have only been playing chess for two years after being taught the game by their dad Jatinder.
Since then they have become valued players for Q Gardens Chess Club.
