A BRADFORD business which makes authentic Mexican food has been shortlisted for a national award.
MISKI, which is based in Shipley, has been shortlisted for the 2024 Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
The business, which is run by Estela Arredando Casillas, has been recognised in the Start-Up Entrepreneur of the Year category.
Speaking to the T&A, Estela is thrilled to be have been shortlisted for the award which will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony in London later this year.
Estela said: “It will be good for my business. I will go to meet other people and make as many as I can to help grow the business.”
Estela, who runs MISKI from her own home in Shipley, makes authentic Mexican dishes and popular salsas and jams for pop-up catering events and markets in areas such as Saltaire and Baildon.
Estela, who is from Mexico City, said: “People really like my cooking and I love cooking, so I thought I’d start up a business.
“I started the business in 2019, then Covid hit, but since then for the last three years I’ve been doing pop-ups and markets. My salsas and jams have been very popular.”
The Great British Entrepreneur Awards, often referred to as the "Grammys of Entrepreneurship" celebrates the achievements of the UK's most dynamic and innovative businesses.
Each year, the awards receive thousands of applications, underscoring the competitive nature and high standard of the competition.
This year's shortlist showcases businesses with a combined turnover of nearly £2.9 billion who employ approximately 20,000 people, highlighting the critical role these businesses play in driving economic growth and innovation.
In the shortlist, a spokesperson for the awards noted that “MISKI, based in Shipley, is recognised for its outstanding contributions in the food sector, bringing authentic Mexican dishes and homemade products around West Yorkshire”.
Previous winners of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards include the founders of BrewDog, MyEnergi, Zilch, Grenade, and ClearScore, who have gone on to become household names.
The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, November 18, at London's prestigious Grosvenor House, where winners for each category in each region will be announced.
