Works to pedestrianise key areas in Bradford city centre continue to "progress well", according to project bosses.

Providing an update, the team overseeing the Walking and Cycling Improvement scheme said: "New paving has been laid down on much of Market Street to the western side.

"Work will now concentrate on the eastern side, where more paving, to provide wider footway space, and planting areas will be installed."

On Bank Street, work is continuing to prepare the area for more paving to be laid between Market Street and Broadway.

The installation of new bollards will continue near to the junction with Hall Ings.

Over the next few weeks, Broadway will see more paving installed to provide wider footways and planting areas at the junction with Bank Street.

The project team added: "Transformation works also started on Bridge Street a few weeks ago, with new paving for the future service vehicle route being laid on the City Park side of the road.

"New paving has now been laid on the other side (beside the Ginger Goose pub) to widen the footway for pedestrians.

"In the near future, a large planter area will be installed which will be landscaped with trees."

The roadworks have proved controversial due to the extent of the upheaval.

Motorists, bus users and disabled people have all raised concerns about difficulties of negotiating their way around the city centre.

But projects bosses insist the work will make the city centre a much more pleasant place for pedestrians and cyclists.

Meanwhile, large machines have been demolishing the final three floors of the former NCP car park from the ground this week.

The remaining protective screens will be taken out next week, and most of the remaining structure will be taken down over the next two weeks.

The works to demolish the former NCP car park will create a new green space, linking to Hall Ings and Norfolk Gardens.
