JAKE Quickenden leads the cast of a new production of Rita, Sue and Bob Too.

The singer, actor and TV personality, who was in The Full Monty at the Alhambra last year, will play Bob in the Regal Entertainments Ltd production of Andrea Dunbar’s gritty comedy, which embarks on a 10-week UK tour next year.

Andrea Dunbar was a Buttershaw schoolgirl when she wrote the play, a comic tale of love, lust and tested friendships.

Rita and Sue are two teenage girls from a council estate, in their final year at school. Earning a bit of cash babysitting for married couple Bob and Michelle, they find themselves embarking on an affair with Bob.

Jake, who joined Hollyoaks as Woody in 2019, shot to fame on ITV’s X Factor and was a runner-up on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. In 2018 he won Dancing on Ice. His stage credits include The Full Monty, Hair, Footloose and Friendsical.

Jake will be joined by Hollyoaks actress Jessica Ellis as Michelle, Kay Nicholson as Rita and Jenna Sian O’Hara as Sue.

Says director Chantelle Nolan: “Andrea Dunbar’s cult classic is a show you can see time and time again and still be rolling in the aisles with laughter.”
