CONVERTING a terrace house into a new restaurant would cause traffic problems on an already busy street – highways officers have argued.

A planning application to convert 2 Oulton Terrace, an end terrace property fronting Summerville Road, to a restaurant and bakery was submitted by A Sattar in April.

But the plans have now been refused by Bradford Council, with officers saying there business would exacerbate existing parking issues on the street.

The plans show the business would have seating for 26 diners.

There had been no objections to the plans, and the planning report says a ward councillor has written in support of the application.

Highways officers said a business of this nature should have around nine parking spaces, but there were no spaces included in the application.

They pointed out there were already issues with parking on and around Summerville Road, and this new business would add to these issues.

They added: “It should also be noted that there are other similar properties facing Summerville Road and if this application were to be approved then other similar applications would be harder to resist.”

Environmental Health officers also raised concerns, saying there was no information about how neighbours “will be protected from odours and noise disturbance from the activities of the restaurant and bakery.”
