SHOCKING images have emerged of fly-tipped waste that forced the closure of a road in Bradford.

A bathtub, carpets, and rubble were dumped on the key rural route, which connects East Bierley and Oakenshaw, overnight.

West Yorkshire Police discovered the two tonnes of waste on Cliff Hollins Lane in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It meant the road had to be shut in both directions until Thursday morning when the area could be cleaned safely.

Kirklees Council said it has a "zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping" and will seek to prosecute those responsible.

"The road was closed by the standby operative until daylight hours when the area could be cleaned safely.

Fly-tipping and littering is a criminal offence that affects people’s quality of life, health, and wellbeing, and attracts rats.

Householders can be fined up to £5,000 and end up with a criminal record if they ask someone else to remove their rubbish and it is found to be fly-tipped.

For land that falls under Bradford Council, fly-tipping sites can be reported to the local authority by calling 01274 431000 or at www.bradford.gov.uk

Anyone who suspects that someone will be disposing of waste illegally should report them to the Environment Agency.

You can check that a waste carrier is registered by visiting the agency’s website, www.environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/index
