A HAIR salon celebrating its 20th anniversary has been nominated for a Telegraph & Argus award.
The T&A recently launched a competition to find the Bradford area’s ‘Best Hairdresser or Barber 2024’.
Readers nominated their favourite via an online voting platform from June 10-16.
One of those businesses that gained enough votes to reach the final was Seymours Cutting Room in Low Moor.
"It is nice to be nominated," Owner Kirsty Murch told the T&A.
"We run a really good business here that has been going for 20 years.
"We kept to those same standards over the years. We never want to let them drop.
"I thank each and every customer for nominating us.
"They have been so loyal down the years. I want to thank them for keeping on returning."
Kirsty has been a hairdresser in the city for two decades since the age of 18.
She credits a loyal clientele for much of her longevity and feels the business is still going from strength to strength.
"It is maintaining high standards and being there for your clients. Your clients become your friends," Kirsty added.
"You are there throughout their lives. You end up being that counsellor and advisor.
"Some people just come into the salon because they need that friend and company.
"I have clients who just call in, don't have their hair done, and just come in for a cup of tea and chat on the sofa."
When asked if the industry had changed over the years, Kirsty pointed out a certain period that was difficult.
"Covid ruined it a little bit," she said.
"It is only now that we are seeing it come back to normality.
"You had people's struggles mentally and with money. That was the hardest time in the last 20 years."
Over the next week or so, we are aiming to publish a profile on each of the 10 finalists.
Nigel Burton, editor of the T&A, said: 'Bradford has some great hairdressers and barbers.
"The difference between a good haircut and a great haircut that makes you feel amazing is their passion and skill.
"The best hairdressers and barbers have a love for their job and unrivalled experience in cutting hair, so they can give their customers a sharp-looking cut tailored to their style preferences."
Readers will be able to vote for the overall winner through a coupon in the paper.
This began on Monday and will run for the next two weeks.
