A spokesperson for the Batley and Spen NPT said: "The new Heckmondwike bus station is now under construction.

"This is a lengthy project that will benefit the area, however there will undoubtedly be some minor disruption whilst the contractors get to work on the project which is estimated to take 54 weeks.

"Presently Metro have staff around the area to assist commuters with locating their bus.

"The temporary stops are now located at Northgate and Regent Street.

"Officers from Batley and Spen NPT are in contact with contractors and will be monitoring the area for any issues."

The project is being delivered by West Yorkshire Combined Authority in partnership with Kirklees Council.

The new, fully accessible station will also include extra seating, better footways, cycle parking, new toilet facilities solar panels, a “green roof” with plants, and more green space.

The project aims to improve journey reliability and times, as well as reduce congestion and improve air quality.
