A VIDEO sent to the Telegraph & Argus shows a man brazenly stealing a large package from the doorstep of a house in Bradford.
West Yorkshire Police has launched an appeal after a parcel was stolen from outside of a property in School Lane, Wibsey, at around 5.30pm last Wednesday.
The homeowner recorded the “opportunist thief” taking the item from outside the front door.
The video shows a man wandering down a cobbled lane - dressed in all black, including a cap – with one hand in the pocket of his puffer jacket.
He looks to the right once, before doing the same again as he gets to the gates of the property, and his gaze seemingly shifts downwards.
The suspect proceeds to turn towards the gates and opens one of them after lifting the drop bolt that was keeping it shut.
He enters the paved garden of the house, where a car is parked, heads towards the doorstep, and picks up a large parcel before making a quick exit.
The gate was left open and the man seemingly picks up the pace as he runs off to the right.
The homeowner said the package weighed more than 12.5kg and was worth £34.
He said: “The value was only £34 but the point is it could have been something really valuable.
“Now the comical thing is it was a bag of bird seed so you can imagine the thief's surprise when he opened the box.”
However, he has been left disappointed at the way police handled the situation.
The homeowner said on Tuesday night: “The sad and annoying thing is that we reported the theft on Friday, the 101 operator gave us a telephone interview with a police officer for 8.15am on Sunday morning.
“We received three notifications reminding us of the time but as of the time I send you this email no one has contacted us.”
The T&A put these concerns to West Yorkshire Police.
A spokesperson said: “On Friday, June 14, police received a report of a theft of a parcel from outside of a property on School Lane, Wibsey.
“The incident is thought to have occurred around 5.30pm a few days earlier on Wednesday 12 June.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Bradford District Police by calling 101 or online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/LiveChat quoting reference 13240320288.
“Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The homeowner said: “The good thing from this is that the company refunded the cost of the bird seed and the driver called to the house to apologise for leaving the parcel where he did.”
