MOTORISTS are facing 90 minutes delays with queues six miles long after a multi-vehicle crash on the M62 this afternoon.

Two lanes are shut after the crash on the M62 westbound near junction 23 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Four vehicles were involved – two cars and two lorries. It was reported at 3.04pm.

"There were no injuries reported. Vehicle recovery is ongoing."

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: ""e received an emergency call at 3.13pm on Friday afternoon to report a collision on the M62 near junction 23 in the Huddersfield area. 

"An ambulance and team leader were dispatched to the incident and one patient was checked over on scene but did not need to be conveyed to hospital."

National Highways issued this statement about the crash: "Following a multiple-vehicle collision on the M62 in West Yorkshire, there is a delay of up to 90 minutes and congestion for six miles between J24 (Elland) and J23 (Huddersfield).

"This is due to a collision that was reported at approximately 3.10pm which initially blocked the road.

"One lane has been cleared and re-opened at approximately 3.15pm.

"The vehicles have now been moved into lanes two and three of (three) to allow safe recovery and clean-up work to take place.

"Road users intending on using this section of the M62 westbound are urged to consider alternate routes or delaying their journey until the delays have eased."

The most recent traffic alert from Inrix reported: "Severe delays and two lanes closed due to accident on M62 westbound at junction 23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).

"Congestion to Hartshead Moor Services.

"The motorway was blocked for around 35 minutes, after which lanes two and three (of three) remains closed.

"Traffic is also slow in the opposite direction."
