BRADFORD Council have given the green light for a fire damaged structure on a major road to be demolished.

A building known as Consortium House and a stretch of wall that was once part of the Associated Waste Management site on Valley Road, Shipley, will be demolished over a period of three days after approval was granted.

The waste site was gutted by fire in 2018, and the site has remained empty ever since.

Plans to redevelop the land by building a new leisure centre and drive thru take away were refused by Bradford Council earlier this year.

After the refusal Oniel Construction (Yorkshire) informed the Council it planned to demolish some of the structures, saying: “The site is being prepared for redevelopment and the building and wall are proving unsafe and requires immediate remedial work.”

The application was to see whether a full planning application was needed.

Conservation Officer Hannah Meekings said: “The site does not form part of a listed building and is not within a conservation area.

“Whilst it is very regrettable, it does not appear that there are grounds to request planning permission for the demolition."

The application was approved.

Plans show that demolition is expected to take approximately 2-3 days.

The approval documents said: “After demolition is complete, it is suggested that the site will be left in a clean and tidy manner and ready for redevelopment.

“The site is pending future proposals for redevelopment and these are currently being drawn up.”
