A MAJOR retailer has applied for a 24-hour licence to sell alcohol when its under-construction store opens in Shipley.
The new Home Bargains store at the Shipley Wharf Retail Park is the subject of a new alcohol licence application to Bradford Council.
T.J Morris Ltd, which trades as Home Bargains, has applied for permission for the “sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises on Monday to Sunday, 00.00am to 23.59pm.”
The Telegraph & Argus asked the company if the plan was for the store to open 24 hours a day. A spokesman replied: “Thank you for your enquiry, please be advised we have nobody available to comment.”
They were also unable to say when the new store would be opening.
Shipley Town Council’s Planning & Regeneration Committee recently met, and agreed to request that the store's licence to sell alcohol be limited to the hours of 8am to 8pm.
A final decision will be made by Bradford Council.
The discount store is being built at the junction of Salts Mill Road and Otley Road, at a retail park that is already home to a Lidl and Costa.
