POLICE are appealing for witnesses after several people were injured following a verbal and physical altercation involving two groups.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a man carrying a pizza who approached those involved in an attempt to calm things down but left after he was assaulted, said West Yorkshire Police. 

The incident happened between 5am and 5.15am on Sunday, at the top of Crown Street in Halifax town centre.

It involved a group of four males and another group of two men and a woman, said police.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:"One of the group of three, a 31-year-old man, was punched and kicked numerous times and suffered facial injuries and cuts to his knees and elbows.

"The other man and woman in his group were also injured.

"A 21-year-old man has been arrested, interviewed, and released on conditional bail.
