POLICE have launched an arson investigation after a "deliberate" attack on a number of HGV trailers parked in a farm yard off a semi-rural road in Bradford at the weekend.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent six crews from stations across Bradford and surrounding districts after "numerous" HGV trailers were set alight in an attack at the weekend.
The fire service was called after a number of HGV trailers caught fire on Wyke Lane, between Oakenshaw and Wyke, on Saturday (July 1) just after 4pm.
Appliances from Bradford area stations Odsal, Cleckheaton, Bradford and Fairweather Green were sent to the incident, along with firefighters from Morley and Halifax.
A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "This is believed to be deliberate and West Yorkshire Police are investigating."
"Police were called to Fearnley Farm on Wyke Lane, in Bradford at about 4.17pm on Saturday (June 1) to a report a HGV storage trailers were on fire there.
"Emergency service attended the incident in which several storage trailers were damaged.
"A crime of arson has been recorded and a number of enquiries are ongoing."
The T&A visited the scene and found the burned out and melted shells of at least three lorries at the site.
In a full statement issued by a spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service on Saturday: "Fire crews were called to reports of a vehicle fire at Wyke Lane, Bradford, just after 4pm Saturday.
"Numerous HGV trailers are involved in fire.
"Appliances from Odsal, Cleckheaton, Bradford, Morley, Halifax and Fairweather Green are in attendance."
They then sent an update later which said: "The fire is now out and an investigation taking place."
The West Yorkshire Police have now issued an appeal to the public asking for help in identifying any "suspicious activity" in the area just prior to the blaze.
"Anyone who saw suspicious activity at the location just prior to the fire or has any information which could assist police enquiries is asked to contact Bradford District Police on 101 referencing police crime number 13240294291.
"Information can also be given online at westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat or anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."
