POLICE have confirmed a person died on the railway at the weekend.

Trains were cancelled between Bradford and Skipton on Sunday due to an emergency on the tracks.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to the line near Steeton and Silsden Railway Station just after 8.30am.

It was to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said resources were sent to the area.

The BTP spokesperson said: "Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

All lines between Shipley and Skipton railway stations were blocked.

Services impacted included Bradford Forster Square to Skipton and Leeds to Skipton, which was unable to run between Shipley and Skipton.

A spokesperson for Northern Rail said at 12.28pm on Sunday: "Disruption caused by the emergency services dealing with an incident between Shipley and Skipton has now ended.

"Services are no longer affected by this problem."
