TWO teenage girls have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a train conductor.
Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) said they attended Burley-in-Wharfedale railway station just after 8.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday after receiving reports that a member of rail staff had been attacked after "intervening in an altercation".
BTP has today confirmed that a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of assault.
They have both been bailed while enquiries continue.
The train service, which was travelling from Leeds to Ilkley, was terminated at Burley-in-Wharfedale after the incident.
Kerry Peters, regional director for Northern, said: "We are providing support to the conductor who was involved.
"Northern do not tolerate threatening, abusive or violent behaviour towards our staff and we work closely with BTP to help them identify and prosecute offenders."
