A BRADFORD man charged with multiple offences over an incident outside a bar in Leeds has successfully appealed against a conviction for possession of a bladed weapon.

In a case heard at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, June 24, Mohammed Irshad, 36, of Pelham Court, Eccleshill, was found guilty of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress; using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence; and obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.

Judge Neil Clark, who led the appeals panel, fined Irshad a total of £1,100 for the three offences.

However, Irshad’s appeal against a possession of a bladed weapon offence was successful and the conviction was overturned.

The incident took place outside a bar on Lower Briggate in Leeds at around 10.30pm on November 12, 2021.

Judge Clark said: “This appeal is partially successful, with the knife but not the words."

Judge Clark then issued Irshad with fines of £500 and £400 for the two public order offences and also fined him £200 for resisting arrest.
