A NEW room dedicated to supporting breastfeeding has opened at Bradford Royal Infirmary's women's and newborn unit.

The space on Ward M4 has been transformed to provide an appropriate environment for breastfeeding mums who are about to leave hospital and go home with their babies.

Infant feeding co-ordinator and specialist midwife, Rea Halstead, has been the driving force behind the creation of the room.

She said: "This is a dedicated room to support breastfeeding women.

"It has been created as an area for mums who are about to be discharged so they can experience a home-like environment with seating that more resembles what they will use at home, as opposed to a hospital bed or hospital chair.

"It's fantastic to have this dedicated space where mums can come and express milk, feed their babies in a safe, clean and bespoke room, and be supported."

Mums were consulted for their input when creating the room.
