A ROAD is still closed after it was submerged in floodwater during the Bank Holiday thunderstorm amid heavy downpours that battered Bradford and the rest of West Yorkshire.
Leeds City Council revealed last week that a sewer collapse in Low Lane, Horsforth had caused damage to the road surface.
The local authority has been liaising with Yorkshire Water to investigate what work needs to be done to fix the road.
First West Yorkshire initially posted on X to say the road was closed due to a burst water main but Yorkshire Water told the Telegraph & Argus late last Friday that there are no defects on its network in that area.
A spokesperson for the utility company said: “Our team has been to Low Lane, Horsforth and we can confirm that there are no defects on our network in this area.
"The road surface damage instead appears to have been caused by the heavy rainfall experienced earlier this week.
"We are now liaising with the council to determine required work and thank road users for their patience whilst the road is closed.”
Leeds City Council said Low Lane is closed between the junctions of Lister Hill and St James Drive.
The road is fully fenced off near the Evans Halshaw Vauxhall car dealership, with the tarmac heavily fractured and lifted at certain points.
First West Yorkshire's 50A bus, which runs between Horsforth and Seacroft, is operating via Broadgate Lane in both directions currently.
A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said last week: “Following reports of a collapsed sewer which has caused damage to the road surface, we are currently liaising with Yorkshire Water to determine the full extent of works which need to be carried out at Low Lane in Horsforth.
“The damage has necessitated a road closure between the junctions of Lister Hill and St James Drive, which will be in place until the required work can be completed.
"Signed diversions are in place and we will keep residents informed via our social media channels.
"We would also thank road users for their patience.”
Low Lane was covered in deep water on Bank Holiday Monday, as driving rain came down relentlessly.

Videos of the scene showed cars submerged in the settled rainwater, with one vehicle abandoned and a recovery truck behind it.
One image from another part of the road showed four people, with water up beyond their knees, attempting to push a stranded car out from the flooded road, while an individual can be seen carrying another person on their back through the water.
A police car can also be spotted blocking the road in the background.

Leeds City Council also announced on Bank Holiday Monday that a footpath was closed near the Fox and Hound Pub and Horsforth Railway Station due to it collapsing.
Bradford and the rest of Yorkshire and the Humber were put under a yellow thunderstorm weather warning by the Met Office on the Monday.
Sy Scott described the storm as "scary but fun" and said, "it's bedlam. I've not seen a storm like this in years".
