A DISTRESSED cyclist says he was "nearly killed" when he was hit by a car in Bradford in broad daylight.
Dr Muhibul Haq told the Telegraph & Argus the incident happened at the junction of Leeds Old Road and Silverhill Road.
The 51-year-old, of Bradford, said he suffered a number of injures - and his bike was left broken and unusable.
According to Dr Haq, the driver was apologetic at the time, and offered to pay the bill for repairs to his bike.
Dr Haq said phone numbers were exchanged and the driver subsequently said he would visit Dr Haq at his home - but this has not happened and now the motorist is not responding to his messages.
West Yorkshire Police was informed of the incident - which happened at around 3.30pm on April 11 - and officers said enquiries were ongoing.
Dr Haq, an academic working as a senior lecturer at Huddersfield University, said he suffered numerous injuries across his body and had been to see his GP.
He added that he had also been left psychologically affected by what happened and was struggling to sleep properly.
Dr Haq told the T&A this week: "The driver nearly killed me.
"I hold him wholly responsible for this incident.
"He must be dealt with and justice must be done.
"I expect police to act and update me."
Dr Haq added: "I've been a passionate cyclist but I've been put off by this incident and left scared.
"My carbon fibre bike is also broken and no longer usable - I do not have a decent bike.
"Since this incident, I've not been able to sleep properly, the way I used to.
"This is because I am still in physical and psychological pain."
He added that he had signed up for two charity events planned for June - but had now pulled out as he does not think he will be well enough to participate.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "West Yorkshire Police received a report of a collision involving a bicycle and a car at the junction of Leeds Old Road and Silverhill Road, Bradford, on April 11.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
