AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a popular boxing gym owner at Bradford Coroner's Court.
Earlier this month, the Heckmondwike community was shocked to learn boxer-turned-trainer Jordan Schofield, 42, had died.
Jordan helped kids of all ages at his Iron Arms Boxing & Fitness Gym, on Church Street, for over 15 years.
A fundraising page to aid funeral costs has hit over £14,000.
In a hearing on Monday morning, Assistant Coroner Peter Merchant opened the inquest.
He conversed with coroner's officer Lindsay Lewis, who told the court Mr Schofield passed away at his home address on Halifax Road on Saturday, April 6 at 11.25am.
He was born in Dewsbury on February 3, 1982, and was also a personal trainer.
Mr Schofield lived alone and was single, the court heard.
The inquest was adjourned to a conclusion date of July 9.
Last week, the Telegraph & Argus spoke to family member Jade Cressey, who set up the fundraising page, and she was keen to pay tribute to Jordan.
She said: "He ran it (the gym) for kids that were getting bullied or didn't fit in to try to build confidence and look after each other.
"They all made friends there. Our son went there. They just loved it. He used to do boxing shows for them.
"Everyone really valued what he did for the kids and community. He kept them off the street and out of trouble.
"He never asked for anything it return. It was never about money. The gym was open to anyone any time of day.
"He was there to talk to them and was a listening ear if they had any problems."
Jordan was well-loved in the community after living in Heckmondwike for all his life.
"It has affected a lot of people," Jade added.
"He impacted so many lives, the whole town is going to be shut down for the day (of his funeral). There are going to be so many mourning people.
"We set up the GoFundMe page and so many people have been coming up to me saying they wanted to be a part of his final journey. We want to give him the best send-off we can.
"It gives you a sense of hope that the community does come together. Tragically it is in times like this to know everyone is there for you if you ever wanted to talk.
"I just hope he knows how much he was loved."
