A BUS operator has slammed youths for acts of vandalism that can have "very serious consequences".

Early today, First West Yorkshire said its 608 and 617 buses will only operate as far as Heysham Drive following the attacks in Holme Wood.

This means Copgrove Road, Broadstone Way, Holmewood Road, and Fenby Avenue in the Holme Wood and East Bowling areas will not be served.

First said stones were thrown at a bus, causing damage to its windows, at around 1.05pm on Broadstone Way.

No one was injured and the incident was reported to the West Yorkshire Police.

First Bradford said it is working with police to review CCTV to see if those involved can be identified.

A spokesperson for the company said: “The safety of our staff and customers is our highest priority and we are working closely with the police to investigate this incident including the use of onboard CCTV footage to help identify the individuals involved.

"Such attacks can have very serious consequences and we would encourage anyone with information to contact the police or get in touch with Crimestoppers.

“Acts of vandalism cause significant interference to our timetabling arrangements and our service could be withdrawn for the rest of the day and evening or diverted away from the area concerned, disrupting the plans of customers who wish to make their regular journeys.

"Whilst every effort is made to get our vehicle back on the road the next day, sometimes it may be missing from service.

“Customers are advised to check our website or follow our social media for updates and we will advise them as soon as services are able to resume their full route.”

Routes of buses affected

The 608 runs between Bradford city centre and the Holme Wood estate.

It normally continues from Lymington Drive down Broadstone Way - which runs through the heart of Holme Wood - when heading away from the city, before turning onto Kesteven Road.

The service then does a loop from here, onto Landscove Avenue, and then back onto Broadstone Way to head back to Bradford.

The 617 also passes through the estate on its route from Ayresome Oval to the city centre
