JCT600 crowns Yorkshire the 'car care capital of the UK'

JCT 600 conducted a national study to find out what percentage of people the UK do not know how to fix common car issues.

The results show over 50 per cent of people in Yorkshire are confident in general checks on their vehicle, compared to only 24 per cent of Londoners.

Results for Yorkshire sit 10 per cent above the national average (40 per cent).

Some of the other results from JCT600’s survey found:

• Only four per cent of people in Yorkshire don’t know how to check tyre tread.

• Only five per cent don’t know how to check tyre pressure

• Only seven per cent don’t know how to check their oil level

• 14 per cent didn’t know how to change a windscreen wiper blade

• 17 per cent didn’t know how to change a tyre

• 21 per cent of people didn’t know how to check their brake fluid.

The survey also highlighted there are generational differences in knowledge gaps, with 86 per cent of over 65-year-olds knowing how to change their tyre compared to only 70 per cent of 25 to 34 year olds.

Richard Hargraves, managing director at JCT600, said: “It’s interesting to see Yorkshire as the car care capital of the UK.

“I think it shows the amount of skill in the region and obviously a passion for motoring.”
