I DON'T know about you, but my idea of a perfect Sunday afternoon is a long stroll followed by a delicious pub lunch.
That's exactly what I did yesterday.
After a three-mile walk around Scammonden Reservoir (that was pretty spectacular, by the way) with some friends, we were in need of a good feed - and we got just that thanks to the New Inn at Sowood, located between Halifax and Huddersfield.
Walking into the pub on what was a pleasant spring day, you've just got to stop for a few moments and take in the extraordinary views stretching over Calderdale and beyond - absolutely stunning!
Inside is so cosy and charming - and the moment we entered, we were greeted with a warm smile from friendly staff who took us to our table.
The New Inn prides itself on fabulous home-cooked food - and its menus are bound to make your mouth water.
My starter - creamy garlic mushrooms - was delicious.
Tasty and flavoursome, I wanted to eat the button mushrooms again and again.
The rich sauce came with a generous dollop of crème fraîche and there was some nice crusty bread to help mop it all up.
I opted for a Sunday roast for my mains.
The chicken, stuffing, veg, roast potatoes, large Yorkshire pudding, and honey roast carrots and parsnips all tasted lovely, and I thought there was just enough on the plate - not too much, not too little, just right.
I felt a bit bad for piling all the calories back on after our walk - but you only live once, right?
With that sentiment in mind, I decided to go the whole hog and order a dessert (three courses for £27) - jam roly-poly with custard and raspberry sauce.
I was in a very happy place as I ate that - it was so yummy!
In addition to its popular menu, the pub also offers a fantastic selection of real ales and a great choice of other beers, lagers, wines and spirits.
It has a large outdoor area for customers to enjoy those summer days and nights, and it also has plenty of parking, as well as being right next to the local bus stop.
This lovely country pub offers a fine experience - and we all left feeling very satisfied as the warm mid-March sun shone on West Yorkshire.
