BOSSES at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are investigating after a board member publicly made complaints about the alleged treatment of Muslim staff and patients.
Mohammed Hussain, a non-executive director at the trust, made a series of comments on social media site X.
The trust said it takes Mr Hussain's complaints "very seriously" and added that a "formal investigation process" had started "as a matter of urgency".
Mr Hussain said black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) board members' voices "are not heard and listened to" at the trust.
He said there were "many examples of Muslim families experiencing poor responses to complaints" - and described language and interpretation services as a "real issue".
Mr Hussain complained that he had to chair a four-hour meeting on Eid, which impacted his "family life and religious observance".
He added: "On another occasion an extraordinary board meeting was called at Jumma time (Friday prayers). When I complained verbally and in writing I was told it would still go ahead without me.
"I would never expect that in Bradford. This was a genuine shock.
"The meeting did go ahead without me."
Mr Hussain also pointed out that Barts Health NHS Trust in London had introduced software providing multilingual labels on medicines.
He added: "I tried to bring this to Bradford for years.
"This was continually frustrated and eventually rejected last year by the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.
"Barts Health NHS Trust and other NHS trusts found reasons to implement this solution of multilingual medicines labels to reduce health inequalities.
"Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust found reasons not to."
A spokesperson for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: "The trust takes the concerns raised by Mr Hussain very seriously and is investigating these as a matter of urgency.
"This will be a formal investigation process, so we are unable to comment any further at this time."
The trust employs more than 5,500 people across its several sites in the Bradford district, including Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital.
