A PLAQUE has been placed at Bradford Coroner's Court as part of a special visit.

Councillor Gerry Barker, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Zulfiqar Ali Karim, the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, Cllr Ashley Evans, the Mayor of Calderdale, and Cllr Nosheen Dad, Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, paid an official visit to Bradford Coroner's Court earlier this week.

A plaque was unveiled in the court's reception area to mark the occasion.

The coroner's court moved from inside Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court to a newly-refurbished building in Cater Street, Little Germany, opening in 2022.

The court - which hears inquests into people's deaths - provides a vital service for families and communities of Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale.

Martin Fleming, senior coroner for West Yorkshire, said he was "delighted" to welcome the senior representatives to "view our court and the facilities we offer to the families in Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale".

He added: "We know that attending a coroner's inquest can be a distressing and difficult experience for relatives and friends and we want to provide a welcoming and safe environment for the bereaved which we feel that this new coroner’s court does."
