THE horror of a bad crash that killed a man in his 20s on a Bradford road earlier this week brought back memories of another collision which happened over 20 years ago at nearly the same spot which also saw a teenage boy die.
Emergency services were called to the scene of a three-car crash on Bolton Road near the junction of Boars Well Drive just before 9pm on Thursday.
One man in his 20s died in hospital from injuries he suffered in the crash. Three other people were taken to hospital and one man was arrested.
Debris from the crash and damage to a gate and small tree in a garden could be seen on Bolton Road near the junction of Boars Well Drive.
One local resident said: "I didn't see the accident but we all heard it. There was a loud bang.
"One of the cars went into the garden of a house.
"There were so many emergency vehicles and police cordoned off the road.
"I saw a lot of people rush outside to help.
"It's very distressing to hear that four people were injured and now one had sadly passed away.
"This has been very upsetting for neighbours."
The resident, who has lived on Bolton Road for over 40 years, said: "There have been a lot of bad accidents in this area of Bolton Road because it's on a dangerous bend."
The resident said that Thursday night's crash brought back memories of a crash on the bend that killed a teenage boy in the 1990s.
"I've lived in the area for over 40 years and an accident that killed a teenage boy took place in a similar spot.
"It was outside a pub called the Wild Boar, which is in the same spot where one of the cars in last night's crash ended up in the garden of the house.
"This road has got a lot busier over the last 40 years due to the sheer volume of traffic."
The resident's sadness about the crash reflects the community's shock.
Cllr Si Cunningham, ward councillor for Bolton and Undercliffe, said: “We are extremely shocked and saddened that a young man has lost his life in what has clearly been a very distressing incident.
“It’s very important that anyone with any information or dashcam or other footage shares this with local police to assist their investigation by calling 101.
“Myself and the other ward councillors, Julie Humphreys and Suhail Choudhry, have been speaking to local residents on Bolton Road and nearby streets who are understandably very shocked about what’s happened.
“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family and all those who have been affected.”
