A WARNING has been issued by a headteacher following a series of alarming social media posts and incidents.

Andrew Taylor, head at Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College, sent a message out to parents amid concerns over rising tensions in the Wibsey area.

One dad told the Telegraph &  Argus that his 15-year-old son was set upon by a group of males brandishing weapons during an attack in Wibsey Park on Wednesday night.

The T&A has also seen threatening messages on social media and we understand that many parents have picked their children up already, such is the level of concern.

The message said: "Good morning Parents/Carers,

"As you will be aware, there are some alarming social media posts circulating which are causing understandable alarm in the community.

"We are building our intelligence of the situation, and we are working with the police to ensure everyone's safety in school.

"To mitigate against any risk, we will have the following procedures today, in addition to our usual safeguarding protocols.

"You may collect your child if you are concerned, which will be authorised absence

"Additional police presence is expected towards the end of the day

"Our Welfare Team are well aware of the facts and will be available for any students who are worried."

Mr Taylor's message said that ALL after-school activities are cancelled today, including detentions.

He added: "No student will be allowed to leave site on their own during the day, even with parental consent.

"Please ensure that they are collected if they have an appointment or need to leave before 3pm for any reason

"Students are advised to go home at the end of the day via main roads, rather than using any secluded areas, such as the park

"This message is not intended to cause any undue worry or stress; we should remain calm and assured that the risk is low, but extra caution is required to ensure everyone's safety.

"Thank you for your support. Andrew Taylor, Headteacher."
