A BRADFORD dad is warning parents to keep their children away from a Bradford park after his son was injured and robbed in a terrifying incident last night (Wednesday).
The dad spoke about how his 15-year-old son was set upon by a group of males brandishing weapons during an attack in Wibsey Park at around 7pm last night.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police received a report of a robbery at Wibsey Park, Bradford, at 7pm last night (Wednesday) in which the victim, a 15-year-old male, was approached by males who threatened him before taking his mobile phone."
Describing the incident, the dad said: “They pointed a machete at him and walled him up.
“They then punched him in the face and ragged him around a bit to scare him into getting him to give up his phone.
“My son’s lucky he had gloves on because he grabbed the machete to keep it away from him.
“He’s got bruises on his face above his eye and small cuts to his fingers.
“He’s a little bit shook up but is ok physically. It’s just not nice to see to happen to your son.
“He’s also gutted he lost his phone, an iPhone 15 which he got for Christmas, but the main thing is he’s fine. I’m just hoping there are going to be any long-term effects.”
The dad also said his son said his attackers - there were four or five of them - were wearing balaclavas and dark clothes, and one had a machete, another had a bat and he believes that two others had knives as well.
But the dad also said he wanted “to warn parents to keep their kids out of the park”.
“His school have been brilliant, and he’s been off school today and tomorrow.”
The dad also praised police for their handling of the investigation.
“The police have been very good and they’re taking it seriously,” he said.
“They’ve been very thorough, and afterwards they took my son and I out in the police car to see if we could find them.”
Police have started an investigation and are appealing for more information about the attack.
