A BRADFORD resident has spoken about being shocked by drivers who have flouted road closed signs to drive through ongoing roadworks.
Wrose Road near the Thornacre Road junction in Wrose was shut at the end of last week due to a burst water main and Yorkshire Water has been carrying out repairs to get the road back open again.
“It’s been shut for four days,” said a Wrose Road resident, who spoke about the water main burst in the road outside his house. “My water was off for a bit but they got it turned back pretty quickly.”
“They put the barriers up and they had the road all dug up on the first day.”
He said the road has since been resurfaced and today (Sunday) crews repainted lines.
He said the crews were anticipating the road would be reopened soon.
Even though the road has been closed, the resident has been astonished by the behaviour of some drivers who have been flouting rules to get past the roadworks.
“A lot of drivers used Wrose Road as cut through to get to where they want to go.
“This morning I saw a van driver move cones at the side of the barriers and then mount the pavement, drive over the newly resurfaced road and then drive on the pavement and move the cones again to get through to the other side.
“I couldn’t believe it. The thing is I’ve seen another car do it and then other cars proceeded to follow them through.”
There were muddy tyre marks left by the vehicles on the grass verges of the pavement showing that the road closed signs and barriers has been flouted.
The resident added: “You think drivers would get the hint. There are at least five road closed signs on Wrose Road from the Five Lane Ends roundabout.
“But people have been using this road as a cut through for years. I’ve lived here 12 years, and it’s only getting worse.”
In a post of X, formerly Twitter, First West Yorkshire posted an alert on Friday for the 633 bus service which said: "Due to Burst Water main, Wrose Road is closed."
"The service is diverting via Canal Road, Stanley Road, Gaisby Lane, Carr Lane in both directions.
"Some school services may also be affected."
The T&A has contacted Yorkshire Water for a comment about the works.
