Man seeking life-saving treatment after cancer battle

Support worker Jordan Faal, of Wibsey, had already beaten the disease after having chemotherapy and surgery to remove his left lung.

The cancer returned this time to his right lung only six months later.

The doctors told him it was incurable.

After refusing to undergo even more chemotherapy, the father-of-one has been forced into seeking alternative treatment.

More than £8,000 has already been raised through a GoFundMe page as the community has rallied around to help Jordan in his plight.

He added: "I physically can't go through that (more chemotherapy) so I have been looking online and speaking to doctors about receiving immunotherapy.

"I have been speaking to a clinic in Mexico and one in the UK who could help me."

Jordan, who is the father of Danae Faal, 19, and partner of Catherine Wellham, first started to experience intense chest pains in the summer of 2022.

Jordan is trying to remain positive (Image: Newsquest)In September of that year, he was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called thymoma which had metastasis to his left lung.

Jordan had six rounds of aggressive chemotherapy which shrunk the tumour by half.

"It is like it takes your soul. It just makes you a shell, you are so weak. It destroys you," he added.

This allowed him to undergo surgery in May 2023 to try and fully remove it.

The operation was a sternotomy, which should have taken three to four hours, but ended up being a nine-hour operation.

Jordan had half of his left lung removed and received two blood transfusions.

During the months after the operation, he made a great recovery and scans showed his body to be cancer-free.

Unfortunately, the second follow-up scan showed the tumour had grown back to 8cm with metastasis to his right lung.

He said: "At that point, it was not what I was expecting because I was feeling stronger than I had in the previous years."

Jordan is trying his best to remain positive and is doing all he can to better his health. 

He said: "I have completely changed my lifestyle since I have been diagnosed. I have completely cut out sugar and meat.

"I am just eating veg and taking minerals. I am trying to starve the cancer myself in the meantime."

"I could not believe it," he said.

"It has got me tearing up at how kind people have been. I did not realise there was so much love for me in this world.

"People have stepped up and showed me they are behind me."

The GoFundMe page adds: "I refused to hear a prognosis because I am not willing to give up.

"I was told by my oncologist that I would now be offered second line chemotherapy to try to slow the growth and extend my life, but they could not cure me.

"After careful consideration, I can't put myself through the toxicity of chemotherapy again.

"It was tough the first-time round, and I currently have a good quality of life.

"With other treatments, which are not currently available on the NHS, I can maintain this and build a stronger immune system to fight it.

"To do this I need to raise funds to go abroad and receive immunotherapy and other holistic treatments.

"The doctors believe they can help me which has given me renewed hope.

"I feel I still have a lot to give and experience in life. I am not ready to give up on it!
