People across Bradford are preparing for a special city-wide clean up event to honour Ramadan this spring.

Bradford 4 Better is holding a pre-Ramadan litter picking event between 11am and 1pm on March 3, 2024.

A spokesperson for Bradford 4 Better said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together, roll up our sleeves, and demonstrate our commitment to our community.

"We understand the importance of Ramadan for Muslims and the significance of the principle of cleanliness in Islam so let’s prepare our city for this auspicious time. By participating in this event, we not only contribute to a cleaner and more beautiful Bradford but also foster a sense of unity and pride among ourselves."

The specific meet-up locations are yet to be confirmed but updates are expected to be posted on social media channels and website.

"Rest assured, we will ensure convenient and accessible meeting points across the city," said the spokesperson.

Everyone is invited to get involved, from long-time residents to newcomers.

Community Clean Up Campaign

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: University of Bradford graduate, Rotimi Olorunfemi, and the team of volunteers

Fly-tipping and littering has blighted streets and neighbourhoods across Bradford district for too long.

There are already lots of community groups, litter-picking heroes, and kind neighbours making a difference on their doorstep.

We want to celebrate the amazing work of Bradfordians by regularly sharing their efforts.

You can send in photos and videos of your community’s litter clean ups by emailing newsdesk@telegraphandargus.co.uk

Fly-tipping and littering is a criminal offence which affects people’s quality of life, health and wellbeing, and attracts rats.

Householders can be fined up to £5,000 and end up with a criminal record if they ask someone else to remove their rubbish and it is found to be fly-tipped.

Fly-tipping sites can be reported to Bradford Council by calling 01274 431000 or at www.bradford.gov.uk

Anyone who suspects that someone will be disposing of waste illegally should report them to the Environment Agency.

You can check that a waste carrier is registered by visiting the agency’s website, www.environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/index
