HALF a dozen vehicles were removed in a day of action targeted at a disposal hotspot in Bradford.
West Yorkshire Police and Bradford Council removed illegal and unroadworthy vehicles from two streets in Bierley.
Police say the location, on Hyne Avenue and Fairfax Crescent, is "regularly used as a disposal site for unroadworthy vehicles and is more like a scrap yard at times than a residential street".
Residents had been voicing their concerns over the area and gave their support to the operation.
Six vehicles were removed on Friday morning and several others were given advisory notices about being moved or they will also be seized.
Tong Ward Councillor Matt Edwards was pleased to see action take place and thanked those involved in the operation.
Mr Edwards said: "As ward councillors, we have been pushing for action on the issues along Hyne Avenue for some time so we are pleased to see these vehicles removed.
"I'd like to thank Highways Enforcement and the Neighbourhood Policing Team for their work today.
"We know residents will welcome this as it will make it safer for everyone - especially children along that stretch of road.
"We have similar projects in the pipeline across Tong Ward and will continue to work with residents to tidy the area up."
A post on the West Yorkshire Police - Bradford South Facebook page said: "Today officers from BD South NPT T2 along with partners from the Council have attended at Hyne Avenue and Fairfax Crescent as part of a day of action to remove illegal and unroadworthy vehicles from the streets.
"This location is regularly used as a disposal site for unroadworthy vehicles and is more like a scrap yard at times than a residential street.
"Many of the residents are not happy with the state of the street and were very supportive of this operation today.
"A total of six vehicles were removed this morning and several others were given advisory notices about being moved or they will also be seized.
"The message is clear we will continue to jointly remove, seize and prosecute owners of these vehicles. We are committed to making this a cleaner and safer place to live.
"Thanks for your support and information, we cannot do the job we do without it!"
