LATEST NEWS: Body found inside burnt out car as detectives probe 'unexplained death'
PICTURES have emerged of a burnt-out car that is the centre of a police investigation.
West Yorkshire Police was called to land next to the crematorium on Bingley Road, in Bradford at 7.54am this morning after a member of the public reported finding a burnt out vehicle.
The Telegraph & Argus visited the scene earlier today and found a police cordon in place on Long Lane, between Heaton and Shipley.
Police tape was stretched across the road from just after Long Lane's junction with The Fairways - where Express Golf is situated - to a few hundred yards down the road, heading towards Bingley Road.
A heavily charred vehicle was within the cordon, parked to the left of the road, looking from The Fairways junction.
Investigating officers could be seen examining what remained of the car, as well as taking photos on a tripod of the vehicle.
One resident said this morning that he understood a grim discovery had been made in the area.
A police van and car blocked the entrance to Long Lane from Bingley Road but vehicles were being allowed access for the Council-run Shay Grange Crematorium, which opened last year.
The full statement from West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to land next to the crematorium on Bingley Road, Bradford at about 7.54am today (19/2) after a member of the public reported finding a burnt out vehicle.
"Officers are on scene and initial enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances of what has taken place.
"Any witnesses are asked to contact police via 101 quoting log 230 of 19 February."
The cordon was still in place when the T&A left the scene at 12.30pm.
A cordon has been put in place in part of the Bradford district and police have now issued a statement outlining initial details of the investigation.
There is a large police presence in the semi-rural area between Heaton and Shipley, with the Shay Grange and Long Lane area affected by the ongoing operation.
One resident said he understood that a grim discovery had been made in the area.
The cordon means traffic cannot get down part of Long Lane from Bingley Road, with a marked car and van blocking entrance to the road.
One resident told the T&A the situation was concerning in what is a normally-quiet area.
They said: "Police have been all over, detectives asking questions".
Another man, who teed off at the nearby golf course at 7.15am, said he saw the charred car when he drove past but thought nothing of it.
He completed a few holes before the fire and ambulance service arrived at the scene.
When asked if it was effecting the crematorium, a Bradford Council spokesperson said: “ We are aware of police presence on Long Lane but can confirm it is not affecting Shay Grange crematorium.”
Councillor Ibrar Hussain (Lab, Heaton) said: "It's extremely concerning given what we've heard.
"If anyone's got any information which could assist the police with the investigation, it's absolutely vital they contact the police as a matter of urgency."
Councillor Nussrat Mohammed (Lab, Heaton) said: "If there are any witnesses please come forward."
The T&A asked for further details from West Yorkshire Police this afternoon but there is no update currently.
